Maximising Your GetSavvi Health Membership: The Savvi Way

Product info

As a valued member of GetSavvi Health, your health and well-being are our priorities.

But did you know that being a savvi GetSavvi Health member is about more than just having medical insurance?

It's about arming yourself with knowledge to make the most of your cover, avoid out-of-pocket expenses, and ensure you get the quality care you deserve.

Understanding Your Policy

Unlocking the power of your policy: Don't just skim through your policy – dive into the details. Understanding your cover, limits and exclusions is key.

Know your network providers: Choosing network healthcare professionals can lower your out-of-pocket expenses.

Master the claims process: Timely and accurate submissions can expedite your reimbursement.

Cracking the tariff codes: Talk to your healthcare provider or a GetSavvi Health consultant about the tariff codes of medical procedures. These codes determine what you’re covered for, so understanding them is vital. (All tariff codes are available in your policy document.)

Explore cost-effective alternatives: Generic medications with different tariff codes may be available. Discuss options with your doctor or insurer.

Be aware of waiting periods: Knowing the waiting periods and when certain benefits are activated for specific treatments or conditions can lead to better managing your expectations.

Key Healthcare Terms

Co-payment: Understand what co-payment means in your policy. It's the amount you contribute when receiving medical services, and it can vary.

Day-to-day Benefits: These are the kind of benefits you use on a daily basis such as visiting a doctor for a diagnosis and treatment. They include GPs, dentists, radiologists, pathologists and pharmacies.

Dispensing doctor: A dispensing doctor is a GP who’s able to dispense medication (subject to a formulary) during your consultation should this be necessary. No payment is required. Scripts issued by dispensing doctors are not covered. This means that medication purchased using the script cannot be claimed for even if the dispensing doctor doesn’t have the required medication in stock.

Guarantee of Payment (GOP): GOP is the method through which the hospital is guaranteed payment for services rendered based on the diagnosis provided, when you’re in an accident and need hospital treatment.

Health Insurance: At GetSavvi Health we offer you cover in the event of an illness so that you don’t have to pay out of pocket for medical services when in need.

Non-dispensing doctor: A non-dispensing doctor is a GP who doesn’t dispense medication during your consultation. Should you require medication, you’ll be issued with a script for medication on the GetSavvi Health formulary. You’ll then be able to get your medication at your closest network pharmacy. You won’t need to make any payment for the medication, unless the medication required is not on the formulary list.

Waiting Period: A waiting period is a time frame when your medical cover commences where you’ll be unable to use benefits or claim payouts due to certain conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is GetSavvi Health a medical aid?
No. We offer health insurance with specific focus on day-to-day cover like GP visits and emergency cover.

What's the difference between health insurance and medical aid?
The most significant difference between medical aid and the benefits we offer at GetSavvi Health is that we generally focus on primary healthcare which includes doctors’ visits, dentistry and emergency cover, whereas with medical aid you’ll get more focussed treatment which includes specialists, in-hospital treatment and PMB cover.

Can I get health insurance alongside my medical aid?
Yes. Health insurance is an excellent option for individuals who have medical aid coverage but may not be entirely satisfied with their day-to-day medical benefits (GP visits, dentistry and acute medication, etc).
